Date/Time: 2/4/16 12 pm
Location: A CIES classroom
Topic/Skill: Listening
Feedback provided to tutee: I had Fadia listen to a recording that was about a minute and a half long about a little boy and his family. She had a cloze activity in front of her where she had to fill in the blanks. I had her listen to the recording once all the way through, two more times to fill in the blanks, and a fourth and final time to check her work. After listening to the recording for the fourth time, we went back through the cloze exercise together and I corrected her errors. I then had her explain to me why the correct word in the blank fit with the sentence.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Fadia said that this was a good exercise and that it was on her level. It can be hard at first to find something that will challenge the tutee yet is still doable. After the first couple of sessions I began to get a feel for where she was at in regards to each English skill level. She is definitely more advanced than Ajeel even though they are both in the foundations level class. Fadia has a much better command of vocabulary than he does and so I try to challenge her with some lower frequency words.
