Olivia TS#13

Child tutee

Date/Time: 2/6/16 @ 12-1PM

Location: Books-a-million

Topic/Skill: Addition and subtraction

Feedback provided to tutee: Since this was the last session I had with my child tutee, I wanted it to be fun and include different things. We started with practicing addition and subtraction. I wrote down some simple practice problems for him, and he completed them pretty easily. He used his fingers to count for them, so I wrote down a few more problems and had him try and complete them without using his fingers. For the remainder of the session, we went on starfall.com and he played some academic games. He seemed to really enjoy this website, and even mentioned how he goes on it sometimes at home. As I was expecting, he didn’t want to do any of the reading activities. I got him to do one, but I read some of it for him. Overall, it was a pretty basic session, but he got to practice a skill that he’ll always need.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that it’s good to incorporate different activities in tutoring sessions, especially for young children. This session went very well because he was able to do a bunch of different things and it kept him more interested.
