Julia TS#13- Ajeel

Date/Time: 2/1/16 3 pm
Location: CIES Lounge
Topic/Skill: Subject-verb agreement, Speaking/dictation
Feedback provided to tutee: First, I looked over Ajeel's work that he had been doing this week. He said that he was having trouble with subject-verb agreement so we worked on an activity to help him with this. I had to make up sample sentences on the spot in order to have him fill in the correct form of the verb with the subject already present. After this, we did a speaking/dictation exercise. I had Ajeel make up a series of five questions to ask me. He then had to write down my answers word for word.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: The material that we have learned in the TEFL class really became useful because it has helped me form activities for Ajeel's foundations level, such as dictation. Error correction and explanation took up much of the tutoring session because once I corrected his errors he would want more example sentences to go along with it. I found that the more examples that he received the more that he understood the material. Right now it is hard for Ajeel to speak in complex sentences so having him only ask me questions was beneficial for his skill level.
