Topic/Skill: Grammar, Writing
Feedback provided to tutee: Prior to today's tutoring session I prepared a writing/grammar activity. Fadia had said that she wanted to work on grammar concepts in class so I combined this skill with writing. I brought in two pictures, one of a busy city street corner and the other of a family sitting down to eat dinner. I had Fadia write two paragraphs for each picture, one in the present and one in the past. After she was done writing each paragraph we went back through them together and corrected errors.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: While Fadia was writing the paragraphs she would often ask me if what she was doing was right or if it needed corrected. I didn't know if it would be better to correct her while she was writing her paragraphs or if I should wait until the very end to do all of the corrections. I decided that I would just wait until the very end so that I could let her make her mistakes and then she could learn from them after. It has been a lot easier tutoring Fadia than tutoring Hye-in because she knows exactly what she wants to work on and always has questions for me to answer.
