Topic discussed: Today we had our group presentations for the capstone project. Each one of us took turns presenting about our own cultures and then we would trade off talking about the similarities that we all shared. The similarities included soccer (to some degree in the U.S.), the education system, and coffee as a popular drink of choice.
Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: It was nice to be able to see the pictures as each group member talked about an aspect from their home culture. Before when we were brainstorming, it was hard to get a mental picture of what they were talking about. For example, Le told us that in Vietnam all high schoolers have to wear a uniform. What I didn't know was that the uniforms that the girls have to wear are long beautiful white dresses! One of the pictures that I shared was a stereotypical American picture of a very large man and his very large wife dressed in tacky tourist wear. All of my group members laughed when they saw the picture because they knew that this is definitely an American stereotype around the world.
